broken shopsmith in need of assistance

I ran into chewing of my belt due to the idler shaft being partly out of the headstock in a dedicated SS drill press I was making. Correct alignment solved the problem.

JPG, can I use that link when I reinstall mine on my 57 Greenie with a Gilmir belt?? I have not done it yet because I want to change the power cord. I think I read on SS somewhere when changing the PC I will need to drill a 3/8" hole in the bottom where the old one goes through to accomodate, lack of the term, the cord holder, anti pull/tension devise or some thing of a jig like that.

Thing a ma jig = strain relief.

When I went to the 12 AWG power cord, I barely got the cord thru the hole in the motor housing, so I padded the cord with several wraps of electrical tape, after making a bigger wrap on the inside to prevent the cord sliding out. There is likely a better way to do this, but this relieved the strain on my worry wart, so I went with it.

I have a "The Ultimate Mans" Hardware Store near me, they have strain reliefs in every size and color you can want, I will get the proper size for the cord OD and it will designate what size diam hole the strain relief needs to inter and lock into the cover.
