Sprunger Drill Press

Post by teacherman »

Anybody ever see one of these?
I got it at a used tool place back in 1986. I replaced the motor with a furance fan motor a friend gave me ten years ago. Not terribly powerful, really. It is a decent machine, though. I figure it hails from the early 1950s. Pics attached below.

According to vintage tools website, this is actually from around 1970. These were high quality machines.

I paid 75.00 in 1986. Still runs fine.

Never seen one of those but it looks to be about the same vintage as my old Craftsman.

It's related to the SS.....

What is a cool thing is that the chuck key for the Sprunger fits the drill chuck on the SS. Perfectly.

Jacobs, but I'm not sure about his son. But there are many different key sizes, and these two happen to match, which was handy, as my SS came with a good chuck, but no key.

I checked, and apparently it is a "Supreme," rather than a Jacobs. I'm just glad not to have to find another key, although the portability of the SS chuck makes that part easier.
