Jointer mounting tube "rings"

For those not possessing old stuff. Here are the rings and posts under discussion.

Yes those are the ones I was thinking of and if you look at post #3 that has the link to the shopsmith.com where they have them listed. I don't know if they have any in stock or not but that is the correct part number....

Several of my SPT's had them all from about 1976.

I used to service hydraulic cylinders and what you show are spiral snap rings. They are used to retain bearings and packing supports. They come in lots of sizes. One manufacturer is named Smalley, they should be able to steer you to a distributor.

These are 1 1/4" Spiral External Retaining Rings if memory is still working.

Thanks guys!!! But my Bad!!! I was thinking of the ones TerryD posted in is attachment, I thought they were on my Greenie jointer. Just risked spilling my Martini and went to the garage, freaken cold and rainey again, as usual I was wrong!!! They both have the ones JPG posted pics of and the Goldie has those on them, that jointer is on the floor and I could not see them well. How easy is to move them on the tube to get the height adjustment? I would think the collars like TerryD would slide easy and then tighten the set screw. Why not use those?

The 'vertical' aligning is done by adjusting the SPT to the tubes. With the jointer, wedges/props are recommended!;)

The collars are not needed. The collars with set screws would be a redundant way to position the SPT tubes when the spiral snap rings stop the downward movement of the tubes. Plus the SPTs mounting looks a lot cleaner than using the collars. You use the tube set screws in the SPTs to adjust the height of the SPT. I did have cut off the top of a few tubes that bottomed out in the SPT as the tubes were longer than the original tubes used.
