Tis a salesman's job to convince a 'potential' buyer to do so, not merely be an order taker.

That convincing is the reason for 'demos', otherwise online sales would suffice at a far lower cost and the salesman would be superfluous.

Also consider that this is a major purchase and 'impulse' purchases are not as likely as in an earlier age. Like cars, look now, buy later!

Indeed, an old rule of thumb for the budding salesperson (there&#8217]) was to understand that you weren’t actually doing any selling until somebody says “No!”

’tis then the sellin’ commences. ;)

Knowing nothing about how sales are going makes it impossible to say whether the sales force is doing a good job or not. However, there have been several reports of a sales person being less than cordial and certainly not dedicated to spreading good will amongst potential Shopsmith owners.

I just hope that Shopsmith is paying close attention to what is going on at some of their demos.

So I did make it by that demo at the Lowes in Johnscreek,GA. Yep, same guy as before at the previous demo I attended. But I managed to make it by MUCH earlier in the demo schedule, ie he had plenty of time to shoot the breeze with. I didn't catch his name, but a very nice guy. I asked how it was going and he said he had actually had quite a few sales already. Another SS owner came by and he proceeded to explain in detail all about the Prower Pro. Really amazing!! I have to admit that PP sure would be nice to have, but financially I don't think it's going to happen for me.......:( I explained and I think he understood, I was/ am just happy to have MY SS!!:)

Thanks for the schedule link Dusty, my nephew lives in Appleton WI, 75 minutes from me, he turned me on to SS with his 54 greenie he bought last fall.
I visit him monthly, so SS demo in July there, only place in WI. Him and I will be attending, 2 days. I will be forewarned about the demoee. I owned my own business for 20+ years, no way would I accept someone representing me to act like some of the post I read here. God for bid if I get one like that there, he and SS will need to see proctologist afterwards.
A good and experienced sales person is always selling and knows just because he did not close today, he has only to gain by being patient and not turning the potential customer away from a future sale.

Shopsmith Demo's

Post by tigris1997 »

I can remember going to Shopsmith Demo's in the eighties and being welcomed as an owner. Also each time they gave out a free gift to the people watching.
It was a good place to pick up woodworking tips from other owners.

O-well nothing is the same anymore in this world!:(

The first demo I went to I recognized his voice. I asked him and he said that he was on the video demonstration. I think I made a joke about he not being the sweater guy.

Since this thread started and read the comments about some of the negative "sales persons", and the high pressure tactics, I picked up the same "tone" on the emails I get from SS selling something. Now it could been a seed was planted in my brain from this thread and is totally wrong, I will have to do a PM to db5 for an analyses on this!!! BUT I get the same "vibe" from SS emails on sale items, or new offers. So it may be company policy, if so, it turns me off from the mother ship!!
