It’s look’n good to me. The contrast is beautiful.

What I think I like most about it, so far, is that it clearly shows the workmanship involved.

Thanks for the encouraging words!

I found out I was missing some pieces of hardware so they've been ordered. In the meantime....

I heard about Scratch Stocks from Jim McCann & Nick Engler at the SS Owners Weekend in 2008; they demonstrated them. While they're simple enough to make yourself, I bought one last year from Hock Tools. This is real nice for cleaning out little beading details; I used it to get the tar-like bits of old finish out of the drawer beads:

It was time to put on the drawer knobs after the drawer-fronts were planed, 'scratched', and refinished. The 11 drawers were really hard to manipulate in & out while the knobs were removed. Also I wanted to double-check clearances of the new front panel from all the drawers+knobs. Of 14 new knobs, 12 went in perfectly in the old holes. One needed a dab of Loctite, and one hole was bad enough to drill out, plug with wood, and redrill. Starting to look like a chest now!

I've been pretty busy with other stuff lately, including a vacation in which I prepared a few turned pens for folks we were visiting.

Getting down to putting the felt linings in now. The drawers are trickier than the top bin since they have metal bottoms. So I've been using Gorilla Glue as a (sometimes foamy/messy) way to bond felt to metal. One drawer I'll probably redo as a bead of foam got out of control. I can do about 1-2 drawers after work each day:

You need more glue!

Gee, can I send you my naugahyde(or whatever) chest for 'refurbing'?:D:D:D:D:D

Just kidding. Too much nostalgia for that. Inherited(with over 100# of contents) it from a dear friend.

This was one of the projects that first caught my eye when I found this forum and I live seeing it because there are just so many cool things going. I love the chest, especially your bringing it back to life. I always thought machinist's chests were sheet metal. Just never thought through that they weren't always that way.

Anyhow, congrats and thanks for sharing!
Greenie (no serial #), 82 Mark V 500 serial #128648, ci bandsaw, old jigsaw, planer. All one buy in March 2014. Magna Jointer added Nov. '14. Speed reducer, conical disk and two bearing quill upgrade.

I Just meant the many drawered metal tool chests that are distantly similar... Meaning I was missing the whole idea.
