Awesome idea Gene!! Much easier to just cut out the strip than a whole new insert

Thanks Dusty for the plan.
I guess if it fits the 510, it will fit the 520 as well ....

You are welcome but...this was only an original thought. No, it was not even original. It was original to Gene and I modified it to meet my own needs. Thank you, Gene.

Then I modified my thoughts still again. I am going to make one of these but with still some more changes. On this version I have narrowed the removable insert to only 1" wide. I felt that this change was necessary for the survival of the main table insert.

I like this idea. Would it be possible to modify the design slightly so that the replaceable part would not have to be rounded off in the front? That would make it easier to make the part. Probably not due to the location of screw hole. Just thinking out loud.

That would create a hole at the front. Rounding that end is easily done with the sanding disk.

Excellent adaptation Dusty!!!

I THINK there needs to be some sort of device whose purpose it is to hold the ZCI down in the table cutout. In the Shopsmith design (and in my copies) the screw serves that purpose.

I have been debating as to whether that screw is needed or not. Could that holding power be provided by some other mechanism.

I would like to have an insert that could be popped ion place using no tools. That may not be possible without redesigning the table top.

Like you, just thinking out loud.

I've never screwed the one down in our Powermatic saw, but it's definitely not zero clearance by any means. Just a chunk of oak tossed in the hole.

Just looked, there's no hole to thread into so I don't feel so bad now.
