Dust chute for drum sander

Dust chute for drum sander
I couldn't get a couple of bucks or no takers for a "Freebie" so I decided to put this old Mark VII motor pan to some good use. I have always just cleaned up the mess after using the drum sander but maybe this will catch some of it. I haven't tried it yet, I need to make some more refinements. The unit fits great just laying on the way tubes. It's heavy enough that it doesn't move.

Mark V 510, SS Bandsaw, SS Jig saw, DeWalt RAS, Tormek, Bosch Sabre Saw, Bosch Router, Porter Cable Router, Porter Cable biscuit jointer, IPM, Incra Jig, Jet mini lathe, Delta Drill Press, Delta lathe and etc.
Neat re-purpose
Since your SS won't reverse (I assume you haven't re-wired it) most of your dust is going to go down and towards the back. You might try closing off the front portion a bit to increase airflow down the back side. Trial and error works every time.
Good luck!

No not Incra Jig. It is an IPM (Incremental positioning Machine) fence and stop block. Works great as a router fence for dovetails and box joints.

You are probably right about the air flow. I thought about making a partition but wanted to see how it works before going to the trouble.
I wanted to close all the openings with something other than duct tape but will need to think about it a little.

Hi Don!
Yours will probably work well. Here is a photo of my system. It also works.

Only problem is mine probably cost more than yours. I like your inventive mind!

I had an attachment like yours for my shop vac at one time. I haven't seen it in about 25 years. It may still be here somewhere but senility has set in. I dug this motor pan out of the trash twice thinking there just has to be a use for it somehow. I am thinking about using a cut-off disk and cutting the front down. I just tried the drum sander and it works great but seem to be a little confining on the front. We will see!!!
