shopsmith lathe
Im new at the shopsmith,,,i have had mine for years but never actually got into it till now,,,,i noticed the center spur would not hold and let a piece stop turning when i was turning it,,,,does anyone know what i am doing wrong and is there a better spur to use for turning,,,,mine is the one that came with the shopsmith,,,,,
Cut an X into the drive end of the stock. For the spurs to fit into it.
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

Along with the X, I drill a small hole in the center of the X for the point of the drive. Then, hammer the spur drive onto the end of the wood with a rubber or wood mallet so the spurs get a good bite into the X you cut. THEN install it on the headstock.
