Other Uses For Molder/Dado Arbor 505506?

Other than serving as a dado arbor or a molder arbor, what other uses are there for the molder/dado arbor 505506 pictured here:

I've got three of em. The first I acquired to use with my stacked dado set. The other two arbors came with two molder heads I recently acquired.

I've only got one Shopsmith. So I am going to keep one of the newly acquired molder heads (can't think why I need two) and one of the newly acquired 505506 arbors to use with it (so I don't have to swap it with the arbor I use for my dado stack).

That will leave me with one molder with a dedicated 505506 arbor, one stacked dado head with a dedicated 505506 arbor and one "extra" 505506 arbor.

So I am thinking of separately selling the "extra" arbor. The question of whether there are other uses for a 505506 arbor is so I won't later be kicking myself when I find out I "needed" it.

I assume its a 5/8 arbor, so for that 80 tooth 10" sawblade you always wanted?

It is 5/8 inch arbor. And while there's no obvious reason it would not work with any 5/8 inch bore saw blade, Shopsmith claims it isn't for use with regular saw blades (maybe because they sell a 5/8 dedicated saw blade arbor # 555608).

I have extra dado/molder arbors with dado blades set for specific width that can be mounted quickly on the 520 saving me a lot of setup when changing dado widths. When I get rid of a shopsmith accessory I find that I need it the next day.

If it were me I'd keep it. Of course my shop is pretty much stuff that I've kept over the years.... maybe in the spring I get rid of a couple of hundreds of pounds of it.

OK, now i know why you don't use the longer arbor on a 10" saw blade. It catches on a table brace, which blocks the full range of motion of the blade.
(i learned that about 30 minutes ago)

You could try mounting a buffing wheel on it.

Which is why the extra spacers are important. That nut is very large. So consider a 'thinner' nut.

Realize you travel that road at yer own risk!:rolleyes:

I would keep it as I have kept everything else that is duplicated/currently having no dedicated purpose.
