What paint to restore a 10e?

Post by robster »

I have a can of Krylon Dual Paint and Primer in Hammered Silver. I used it on one metal project and it came out beautiful. Would this be OK or are there better paints to use? The original color seems to be a medium gray. I have derusted most of the parts. They have a lot of good paint on them. Maybe I should not paint it at all. Just clean it...Any help appreciated!
BTW how do I post pics? I read the intructions but got confused.

This is a subject that comes up often. My restore http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/maint ... 15205.html was inspired by MickyD (do a search for his username). Also look here http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/maint ... t5497.html in the rebuild thread for ideas ....

Hope it helps! :D

I think you are asking about the best paint not the best color. I don't know the "Best" paint. The best color is up to you. However, if you want the best match for the original color other than a custom mix then this is what Skip Campbell the undisputed 10ER guru and the owner of the Yahoo 10ER Users Group recommends.

Krylon Industrial Tough Coat

Primer 340 Grey
Paint 1625 Blue/Grey

It is hard to find. The big Box stores don't carry it. O'Rilleys auto parts has it but my local store did not have it. MSC Industrial has it and that is where I get it. MSC has a warehouse in Reno NV and I can get it here North of Salt Lake UT in a day or two.
