Is the 2 HP HF dust collector OK to use with a Dust Deputy,
or is the DC too powerful?

Harbor Freight dust collector, and the Dust Deputy?
10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.
Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

If you are concerned about 2HP creating too much vacuum and collapsing the dust collector, you can also add an adjustable suction relief valve such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax42XEe ... r_embedded to the suction piping used on the vacuum line to the separator. It also helps protect the motor in the vacuum if you get a clog obstruction.

The Rockler Dust Right Dust Separator has worked like a charm for me, and it's size and reduced height lets me keep it out of the way. I didn't need a 2HP unit for my work.

Dust separators in general in my opinion are one of the best product add-ons to come along. I often use one to collect base material to make matching wood fillers for projects.

Steve,
Have you looked at the Super Dust Deputy, which has 4" ports rather than the small Dust Deputy's 2" ports? While I don't yet have any separator on my HF DC, I don't think I'd want to have the restriction so close to the DC as that would reduce airflow way too soon.
Related to that, I purchased a better bag for mine, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005VS ... UTF8&psc=1, which has made a drastic improvement. The original bag let through a lot of fine dust, this one is far better although probably not as good as other filter options. As reviewers stated, the diameter is a good bit larger, requiring some folding/scrunching.

As Roy stated, there are bigger solution options out there, some with 55 gallon steel drums and separator head....roy_okc wrote:Steve,

A Harbor Freight unit using a Grizzly bag and an Oneida Super Dust Deputy cyclone is shown in this video as an example.

Here is a link to a current video showing one method to build a Thein separator using the HF 2 HP DC. There are quite a number of people who build Thein units for the HF DCs. Think there are some threads here on the ShopSmith forum.
