A O Smith motor advice

Good Morning All;

Ok the work on the 10ER is progressing nicely. I am getting ready to tackle the A O Smith motor that is its power plant. Has anyone here redone one of these creatures? It runs, but i want to do bearings and thoroughly clean the little monster and then paint it accordingly. Any and all direction and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I got the same motor and I am planning on doing what you are planning. So I hope I can learn from your experiences but I can't offer any advice at this time.
What I noticed in my motor is that the cable enters through a plate cover and it's connected straight to the windings without any screws, etc. that would allow easy replacement.
Is it the same in yours?

Suggestion before disassembly: make a "permanent" scratch mark for orientation where the body meets the end cap.

Absolutely! You can also use a center punch to punch alignment dots for reassembly. I used to use one dot on both on the "right" and two dots on the "left". Made reassembly easy ....

That is why I put it in quotes LOL. When I work on motors I like to "establish" <- (see the quote .... ) a top. It may be the SN plate or the Capacitor, but establish a top and bottom, hence the "right" and "left"

Besides, I have seen scratches disappear after clean up. Just the way I do it .....

Not as guilty as a couple others here, but guilty never the less.
