Windows 10 free offer

I have high hopes for Windows 10 -- it's the right time in the cycle for another good release from the 'Softies. Personally, I managed to skip both Vista and Win 8 as a user (but I did have to support them on family laptops ). I only recently migrated my personal machines from XP to Windows 7. Except for a couple minor quibbles, I like it just fine.

Early reviews of Windows 10 are encouraging. I also have a friend that gets pre-Beta test releases from Microsoft, and he is a fan. But barring some new killer capability that I can't live without, I'll probably wait until near the end of the 1-year free-upgrade period, to give them more time to get the kinks worked out.

I read about the details on another website. I'll try to find where that was and post the link here. Even though I am skeptical, I must admit that Microsoft did a fantastic job of selling this approach in that link. It sounded as though it was without risk with no hidden gotchas.

It isn't a trial. It is a free copy, if you have an existing qualified licensed OS now, and elect to take their offer at any time up to one year after Windows 10 releases.

What I am doing is hedging my bet.

I presently have two hard disks in a Raid 0 (mirrored) now for Win 7 Pro SP1.

I am installing a new SSD in my machine and the Bios will allow me to optionally boot from a different drive if I elect to during POST (Power On Self Test). If I do not elect an option during boot sequence, it will boot to the Windows 10 upgrade on the SSD. Not all systems bios allow that selectable drive at boot selection.

I am not upgrading my Win 7, I am reinstalling Win 7 on my new SSD, and then letting Microsoft do the free upgrade to 10 on it.

If anything does not work as expected, or I have an application that just will not behave at the version I have licensed in the Windows 10 environment, I can always still run it in Win 7 until a resolution or upgrade comes out for 10.

Somehow Microsoft will come out the winner and since there can be no winner without a loser.........

So in your house who is the winner and who the loser? Or is it possible that you could have an entire house filled with losers - or winners?

I'm no Microsoft fan but I am looking forward to Windows 10.

I have been using Icloud and Google drive and to me they work fine. Can someone read my stuff on them? I don't know but about 5 years ago I learned to put all my confidential stuff on a thumb drive. If you get on my machine and try to use Quicken it acts just like a new install with no financial info. But if you plug in the right thumb drive it has all my financials.
As far as pictures and such I really don't want anyone to see them but if they do there is nothing see except pictures of the family at christmas and such.

I really like the IPAD I bought for my wife. Since you can't down load to it you can't get viruses or malware.

When I first got it I hated it. I fought it tooth and nail and came close to throwing it across the room more than once. I hated apps.

Then one day I gave in started using apps, started letting it decide how it was going to do things and now I use it about 95% of time. In fact I think more people that don't have a specific task that requires a computer would be wise to get and use an IPAD. I don't have to worry about drivers, extensions, firewalls, or where the data is. I just do what I want and it figures out how to do it. I'm using SIRI more and more tell her what I want to what I need to know and she comes back with it. I just got an update to IOS and all I have to do is say install it. I don't have to do anything, I don't have to check for drivers, reboot, close apps, close programs just install. To me that is the way a computer should act.

About a week ago I was offered a free update to Windows 10. I dealt with this exactly as I deal with unknown ballot measures when voting at the polls.
