Business wise I think your decision not to take the bench to show is smart. Why possibly offend potential customers.
While I have no problem with the emblem I know it triggers very emotional negative feelings in some people.
As a business you don't need to trigger anything negative

I don't believe it is a matter over the right or the ability of displaying the flag. It is a matter of alienating potential customers. If your business is successful and it doesn't matter if you lose customers then by all means do whatever. However if you are just starting out and you are trying to obtain new customers what is the point of possibly alienating them?

I had a buddy that owned a shop, my buddy smoked like chimney and his store smelled heavily of smoke. His products smelled of smoke. He claimed it was his right to smoke in his own shop and it was, however nobody would enter the shop after going in and smelling it. He is now working for someone in their business where he is not allowed to smoke. But he was right he did have the right to smoke in his own shop.

It is not "political correctness" it is called "WISDOM".

Setting aside all the non-woodworking commentary (it's a painful subject for some and for so many others it's not about that at all) but I think you are generally on to a very unique idea. What if you make another bench with the Pennsylvania state flag, or a Pennsylvania military unit from the Civil War? It might have some significant local appeal for those descended from soldiers from PA. What about a series of benches with the insignia of the units that fought at Gettysburg? Or a single bench with all the insignia of units from both sides at Gettysburg? That would be telling some history for young people, too.

Just thinking out loud about other similar ideas that might have unique local appeal. If it were Texas, I am certain a bench with a Texas unit insignia (rather than every other bench in the world that has our state flag) would stand out as more unique. Whatever you do, Keep on creating!

Picking it up is irrelevant. Rather tis is how you refer to it. i.e. "waste product". Even feces is 'objectionable'.

I like that idea. My dad was an IH rep and then dealer for his whole career.
