Will new 1 1/3 HP mother work in my greenie

Hello everyone,,,,
Here I am again with a question that I'm sure all you SS pro's will know.
When I got my greenie it was not working. When it was plugged in all it would do was humm,
I have noticed that shop smith offers a mother upgrade to a more powerful 1 1/3 hp motor and was thinking since it probably needs a new motor, may as well just upgrade now.
Any thoughts??

Assuming you are referring to the 1 1/8 hp ss motor, the answer is yes it will fit. Only the older motors with a large nut securing the spring would require additional newer parts.

However if it 'hums' there is likely crud(sawdust) in the start switch contacts. It could be simply a matter of cleaning the contacts.

If a GE motor, a wire may be loose from the start relay.

I would not give up on the 3/4hp motor so quickly.

You might be able to fix the motor you have. Ill leave the advice to those who know whats going on. But ive found that these machines are so repairable. Jpg is the man on motor repair. He's been educating me for the past couple of weeks on the internal workings of one of my old motors.

I'm just not comfortable taking it apart (headstock) I didn't know if I would mess something up or not lol I don't have a manual on the headstock yet. But believe me,,, I really wanted to!!
I worked on a lot of my sons race motors on his road race motorcycles. I did all of the motor rebuilds on his GP RS 125's so I'm sure I could work on one of these. I even did a lot on his 600's too.

I have dealt with Jacob over the years and he has been very reliable and trustworthy to me. He does indeed have DVD's for sale, and a good many free ones on his YouTube offerings.

Don't give up too soon; if you were able to do race motors then you can certainly take apart a headstock, they are actually less intimidating once you get into them. I used Jacob's YouTube videos as well during my greenie restoration and he was a huge help along with all of the advice that I received from this forum. Be sure to take lots of photos as you go along because it will help you during reassembly.
