Scroll saw disassembly

Post by Funbilly »

Hello fello SSer's
I am disassembling my big C shaped scroll saw to clean it and need some advice on how to take the top head piece off. When I remove the front plate there is a bolt there,
When I loosened it, it kept coming out more and more but the head was still very snug. I'm afraid that if I keep removing the bolt, that I may remove it from a clamp inside and I won't be able to get it back in. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!!!
Thanks Billy

I think that the head is held on with a wedge, like a bicycle handlebars. Try loosening the bolt, and then tapping the head of the bolt to release the wedge. Do not remove the bolt completely.

You have a jigsaw, and Shopsmith will sell you a manual with the exploded parts diagram, 877086.

I just remembered something,,,,,
The bolt is inside that small head, so I really don't have much room to tap on it

Do you have a punch, or a socket extension, or maybe even a piece of rebar? Anything to reach in there and tap with a hammer from the other end? Hopefully, it won't take much of a tap.

Just FYI for anyone wanting to remove the head on the scroll saw,,,,
Remove the 4 PHILLIPS screws then loosen and remove the bolt,,, but at the same time stick a small screw driving the hole and push against the plate that the bolt is screwed in to. Once you loosen the bolt and it unscrews off of the securing plate, tap on the head with a plastic hammer and the head will come off then dump the small square plate out and WALLA!!!
When re assembling the head, simply start the small square plate (which sits in a square hole) and slide into the tube and tighten.
