Drill press/table carriage lock woes

I am reminded of a discussion by JPG and Dusty relative to spacers between various models.

Once you had your table height where you wanted it to be for drill press you could make a suitable spacer as they discuss.

It would prevent the carriage from slipping by supporting it. It may be a bit kludge-like, but most will agree the best solutions are simple ones that are inexpensive. You could use wood, PVC, aluminum as suggested, whatever maintained that height for you to get the work done.

You could make more than one length for various height users in the family.

One guy in Australia that I read about modified the wedges and added some rubber to the facing to make it stay put. (still looking for where I saw it) That's a bit much for me, but if you have old worn wedges lying around as he did and the notion to tinker.... well you get the picture.

Denting the tubes is a poor remedy as all warn against.

Spacers is not the 'issue'. They are for aligning the blade to the blade slot.

Carriage lock slipping in vertical(drill press) is. I think it would also be prone to slipping while horizontal.

Although these work arounds are effective, I would prefer to get things right.

New/reconditioned wedges may also be needed.

Wasn't suggesting spacers were the issue, I was pointing out that one could fabricate something similar for the table's carriage to stop against when in vertical position for drill press until wedges could be replaced etc.

The thread you referred to was relative to the rubber way tube spacer.

The 'solution' is indeed the lock wedges etc..
