10ER for general tablesaw/bandsaw

I don't think there is an easy way to run a SS mount thickness planer on a 10ER. The thickness planer has indentations on the bottom to sit on and clamp to the MK V way tubes. The 10ER way tubes are closer together than MK V way tubes. Also the center line of the 10ER spindle is about 1/2" closer to the way tubes than the MK V.

All other MK V SPTs will run on the 10ER using the original Magna A and B adapters or the MKC Tools adapter. As for the Magna adapters, if you ever see one or both grab them pretty much no matter the price. They are just about impossible to find. Particularly the B adapter.

Hey John, do you know if you can mount a bandsaw on a 10ER using the Magna A adapter? It looks like it would put the bandsaw too high to couple if the adapter is mounted the normal way. But I can't tell if it would work flipped over "upside-down", mounted sorta like the B adapter. I realized just today that mounting my bandsaw on a 10ER (instead of a Power Station) would improve my shop layout considerably.

I don't know. I have both adapters here so I can check. My band saw is mounted on its own power stand but I should be able to tell just by mounting the adapters. PM me with your email address and I can send you the manual. Also that will insure I don't forget to check.

I have never used my set of adapters but now that I think about it as long as you are not too high it should work. You just might need a longer set of mounting tubes. The 18" jig saw has a really long set and I thing Skip sell longer ones also.

Anyhow, I will check in the morning. Oh, that may be tomorrow afternoon since I am retired.

I did find a nice 10er for $150 , basement kept and used frequently enough to keep any rust or problems at bay. It has a working speed changer on it. It also came with several miter gauges and some ripping hold downs as well as the disc sander disk.

I ordered another carriage and saw table off ebay that I will be modifying into a router table to go next to the tablesaw.

I switched the belts over from low range to high on the speed changer for tablesaw use , didn't quite go as the instructions indicated as I had two medium sized belts not a short and long but was able to make it work by using the middle pulley instead of the far outside on the top headstock pulley. The belt seems to get a tad loose when I have it set to full speed but that seems to be the nature of the beast.

I ripped and crosscut a few pieces of pine as a test using a regular old skil saw 24 tooth framing 7 1/4 blade , I ordered a new dado arbor from Shopsmith thar I'm using as the saw arbor. The machine handled it with no problems...the belt drive is so much quieter than the portable tablesaw. I'm really happy with the machine and the quality of construction on it so far.

Get the proper belts for your speed changer from Skip Campbell at mkctools.com. Those things are too valuable to run with the wrong belts.

Yes, it appears from the manual that is the way it should be mounted. It is hard to tell from the picture in the manual and there are no instruction on which adapter with which tool and what direction the adapter is mounted. All the pictures show the adapter mounted in the "up" direction. The band saw picture appears to show the adapter mounted in the "down" position but it is hard to tell.

Anyhow I checked the measurements with the "B" adapter and it will work. The "A" adapter in the lower position is lower than the "B" adapter so no problem.

Thanks, John, much appreciated. It looks as if I need to buy that 10ER with the A adapter and SPT drive pulley on the local CL. The seller has dropped the price to $200 OBO.

Thanks Ron. I thought I was good at reading fine print, but I totally missed the fine print that tells which SPTs go with which adapters.

I just measured my bandsaw mounting tubes, and they are not long enough to reach down below the 10ER way tubes, as they would have to if using the A adapter inverted. So it appears that I would have to get some longer tubes if I went that route.

Thanks Ron. I thought I was good at reading fine print, but I totally missed the fine print that tells which SPTs go with which adapters.

I just measured my bandsaw mounting tubes, and they are not long enough to reach down below the 10ER way tubes, as they would have to if using the A adapter inverted. So it appears that I would have to get some longer tubes if I went that route.

I looked at the manual 4 or 5 times and missed it also. However, The A adapter in the low position will work for the band saw or any other B adapter tool with longer tubes.

I would jump on that 10ER with A adapter for $200. I paid $270 on eBay for the complete adapter kit about 4 years ago and have not seen a complete kit since. You see an A adapter or the pulley very rarely on eBay. I can't ever remember seeing a B adapter.

Those are the adapters. I would not pay that even with the adapters. Maybe he will sell you just the adapters. You need the pulley if he doesn't have it but Skip Campbell makes them.
