Most Thanksgivings my wife invites a women she used to work with to share our meal. Like any good guest she brings gift of some sort. Being a fiber artist last year she made this great lace piece. So with Thanksgiving quickly approaching I figured I'd better make a frame and get it up.
This is 9.5 x 9.5 cherry with maple splines in the corner. The lace is held between two pieces of glass. Just to be different I used a slot cutter on the router table for the splines. I thought someone might find this interesting.

We are having our first measurable snow of the season today - of course, we are grilling our 22 pounder on a charcoal grill. Well as we say in Minnesota, if it's snowing, at least it's not cold.

I made the profile. It's easy. I started with stock 13/16 x 1.5. I set up a 3/8" round over bit in a router table, with the bearing flush to the fence and made a pass with the 1.5" side down on table. Then I raised the bit about an 1/8" turned the stock over and made another pass. The piece doesn't come out 'round' but it's easy to use a block plane and abrasives to sand the profile into shape. If you made a large frame it might be a bit more work. You can use thinner stock and 1/4" router bit or larger stock and move to a 1/2" router and create the same kind of half round look with the character line running around the inside of the frame.
