#79 rollpin question

I'm getting ready to order a few things from shopsmith, one it looks like I can not get one unless I order the assy which if not what I want. The rollpin I beleave I once was able to get but not any more.

I think the last time I went to the hardware to get one but they don't carry that length. If memory serves me it might be 7/8" long and they carry 3/4 and 1".

What have other done? I guess I could get a 1" and cut it off with a cut-off wheel or just grind it down.......... Or anyone know where you can find them and not have the shipping make it a $15 item?

Or could this length be used somewhere else on the shopsmith where it might be order-able?

I feel your pain bro, the last Er I bought was missing 2 3/8 or 1/2" set allen screws, 3 hardware stores later all out of that length, they had 1/4" too short and 5/8" too long, good thing here they are all real close. Must use the same supplier that comes in to fill the mini bin drawers.

forgot about you Bro, if you think 3/4 gives you enough go with it, easier then cutting the longer one, I think they are tempered or hardened.

They be springs. Yes they be hard!

I would think 3/4" is long enough in that application. Just make sure it is centered on the 'shaft'.

Cutting is also a reasonable work around.

I found the same part number in the Mark V Model 500 Carriage Service Parts List. Looks like I can order it there for $.80. I think I get a couple of them so I don't have to spend so much time looking for them again.

Yes they are very hard....... in my younger years I managed to chip a piece off of one and it hit me just below my right eye, yes right below my safety glasses. This was not a shopsmith project but I learned my lesson well. It was slightly embedded but I got it out without much trouble and just a little blood loss. Surely could have been worse, I'm glad it wasn't.

Feel your pain, but what is shipping? Ya I am 63 years young, had a kidy bow and arrow thing, some cheap kick ball, snuck up on it, drew back and let the arrow fly, bounced back right at me, hit me just below my right eye, now the helicopter moms would be sueing, and that was just of many, falling of the slide at the top onto just grass, no wood chips with rubber tires in it. Cutting match heads off of matches and making glass/pipe bombs, and we have are fingers and Home Land Security never showed up.

Shipping isn't an issue as the order will be for a lot more then that one little part and the shipping is "free" yet tomorrow. Got a list of stuff to get so even if it wasn't free that small idea would get cover by all the other stuff anyway. That is how I plan my order since the postage is so high.

Few other things from other places to order tomorrow too. At least I can do the ordering right here at the computer and I don't have to run around stopping many many places. Still might go out and get some ice cream as that gets pretty melty in the mail.
