Making your on lathe tools

Also he will sell you the parts to make your own. He sells the cutters cheaper then any one. When I made mine I purchased the cutters from Eddie Castelin. The half inch bar I purchased from Fastenal. The handle I turned myself. There is a good article on Doug Thompson web site http://www.thompsonlathetools.com on handles. Also there are several videos on utube.

My cost was under twenty dollars per tool. Easy wood tool would have cost me around $ 139 per tool. Check out Eddie Castelin's site. He has over two hundred videos on wood turning and tool making.

Great guy! I've been watching Eddie for 3 or 4 years.
Glad the surgery came out OK. Eddie could be a horrible
brain to lose.

Tax return will be getting me a couple hundred dollars
of lathe tools from the Captain.

Anyone know what size hex key the Ci1 and Ci3 cutters take? I've tried my english and metric keys and don't seem to have the right size.

I've purchased from the Cap a few times and have been very happy. After his brain surgery he has been fighting to get back to "makin shavins", and has made great progress. The hex key for the Easy Wood tools comes with the tool and is lost almost instantly. I found mine dangling inside the tube the tool came with and it now rests in it's own special drawer in my "organizer". I wish I knew what size it was. I'm tempted to try to find a philips head screw to replace it with.

I know the thread size, the Ci3 are 8-32 and the Ci1 are 10-24.

But the cap screws that are included require some hex key that i don't own. I know that when you buy the EWT tools they come with a hex key... i'm guessing it's an oddball size.

Most sets don't have the .050 and 1/16" wrenches so I will say the smaller cutter uses the 1/16". I will be in the shop later this afternoon and can check that out for sure. I don't have the larger cutter so I can't help there.
