Wow!, Ed! Your procedure and explanation is appreciated and VERY WELL DONE!-- as always with your posts :D

I Use an old I Phone 4 and my computer is now operated with Windows 8.1. With this combination it is a less complicated procedure to post a photo..

Here's how I put my I Phone photos on this site.

I simply mail my photo to my e-mail. Once there I put the photo from e-mail to "my photos". When in "my photos" the photo must be cropped to become wider than tall. (Without cropping, the photo will be rotated 90 degrees by the forum when posted.)

From here the only manipulation to do is to follow the posting method of this forum.

Chuck, do a test for me. I have a hunch that it's not the actual cropping that prevents the photo from rotating, but rather the fact that it was modified and saved by a Windows program prior to posting. So try some editing operation that does not flip the aspect ratio, save it, and see if it still rotates on you when posted.

I had a similar problem on a different platform. Some applications always displayed photos in the correct orientation, and others (mostly older) did not. I discovered that simply doing a "Save as" operation from my Windows photo-editing software made the orientation always come out correct when viewed from any app. So I suspect that the forum software is ignoring a "metadata" field in the image file that specifies the correct rotation for displaying the image. On a different forum that was having the same problem, this theory was confirmed by their IT people.

In the past I used the method of emailing photos so I could access them from the windows computer but I don't know that everyone here is using a computer to post. I'm not always at my computer either so I was wondering if I could complete the whole post from the phone. I'm able to do that.

Later today I will check the name of the app I use to resize on my tablet. It doesn't have the ability to resize from the photo app. I'll also check to see what smaller photo resolutions it can use. My guess is that it too will have a too large size.

Aspect ratio are another potential issue. My phone shoots at 5312 x 2988 in what they call 16M mode (pixel count 5312 * 2988 = 15872256). This is in a format ratio of 16:9. If I drop down to what they call 12M then I get a 3984 x 2988 picture in 4:3 ratio.

The minimum size is called 2.4M and is 2048 x 1152. Now I just noticed while working on this post the "new limit" seems to have been adjusted to 2050 x 1180 but the upper limit size wise is still 2MB......

Perhaps admin has been at work? If so we still need the upper limit raised to something like 2.5MB????? So the new limit can be used?

So for the fun of it I changed to the phones lowest resolution and took a picture right from the upload attachments.

OK then. How cool is this! Admin must be at work. I was able to use the post to not only upload a photo but actually took the picture from the firefox app while still here at the site.

This means I could be down in my shop or at a sale looking at a shopsmith and use the phone to do the post including the photo without having to mess with anything other then the camera resolution.

I take photos on my phone both vertically and horizontally. I resize them in MS Office although I have used other programs. I have also cropped them at times. They always come out in the right orientation on the forum.
