The links I show give a max weight rating, not a variance. I don't know if these are made in USA but good luck getting guarantees (or evidence of extensive testing) from China. I wouldn't build for a client without manufacturer specs, but a bookshelf at home with the info we have seems pretty safe. I don't contact glue and screw manufacturers for my home projects either.

I think that they do provide engineering specs in the Amazon description, albeit indirectly. "Tested to meet or exceed ANSI/BHMA 156.9-2003 performance standards". Here's a description of the standard, straight from the horse's mouth.

As we are now discussing standards for standards :rolleyes: , I'm going to refer to the physical product as a "pilaster", to avoid confusion.

Buying a copy of the standard is probably more expensive than just buying the "pilasters". So for personal use, I'd just test-load a pilaster to my requirements (with at least a 2x safety factor) and call it good if it passes.

Yes they do meet a standard and I think I mentioned that way back when, the spec is if I remember correctly $35 so that would be in the order of 23 pilaster, now doesn't that sound like a foreign currency??? That used shopsmith is selling for 201 pilasters, whooo that is a good price!

Now I have to order a 5/8" plunge bit for my router. I have some 5/8" bits but not plunge bits. Looks like I can get one for 12.75 pilasters.

You too can start using pilasters for telling your wife you just got a new router and it was only 67.11 pilasters rather then saying it was $100.

Well I have about 10 more minutes before I disappear in the garage to see what other things I can add to my order to bring it up to 23.49 pilasters and get free shipping.
