Ed, you wouldn't happen to have an X-10 Sundowner in one of those boxes? No longer manufactured, even if the web site says in-stock they aren't. They come up on eBay every now and then. They last about 10 years then stop working. I'm on my second one and it's about due. As far as festool goes, well buying the best only hurts once, when you pay for it. After that it will make you smile every time you use it. Your kids will fight over it after you're gone. Kinda like the SS power pro. It's pricey because it works. I think I paid $600 for my festool vac and it's part of a larger plan. I'm adding more festool as my projects call for it and the vac is used for all of them. World class tools. No dust. But it is fun to engineer your own solution. After all what's the rush? That's what hobbies are for. Good luck I'm curious to see how it all works out for you!
I did have a sundowner, used it for many years but it died too. I'm pretty sure then don't make them any more. Since I have stopped buying things they don't send me catalogs anymore. I still use a few x10 things but with the advent of cheaper florescent and now LED bulbs it is getting less and less useful. I have a couple of activehome pro boxes so I can program lights and sequences based on sensor data working with the alarm system. I use to have the camera versions for the backyard lights but that died too so I went with IP cameras now. It was fun.
So yes I understand about Festool and have a plan to get a few of their things. The cost adds up fast however. I want a guided saw system first and foremost so a TS 55 and additional track, and connectors, quick clamps are number one and two and three and four on the list. I'd also like to get the MFT/3 table. With tax and not looking at new prices this came to about $1700. I can budget that amount this year but it would be unlikely that I could add much more.
If I were to find some extra money I think the 1400 EQ router with LS32 system would be a good "addiction" but I don't know if I want to go that "route". A vacuum system would have to be after those and besides my newer shop vac is only a few years old, got it new in 2009 I believe and it is still doing shared duty with another one so effectively it is only half that age use wise.
Anyway the year is still young.

I had not looked at that since it was only a sensor but I see how that could be an interesting addition. It could also get expensive quickly. In order to work you still need a switch and then for every tool you need a sensor. The worst part for me is having to plug in a USB power plug for every tool you want to use it on. So two outlets for everything means having to plug in two things and unplugging two things and storing tools with the extra power cord etc etc. More cords to tangle and deal with is not a plus in my book.
Are you sure you want to go that route?

After thinking about this a bit more I guess one could plug any number of tools into a power strip or one of those 3 headed cords and then put this on below if you will and then if any one of those tools turned on it would work.
I read very carefully about the switch before getting this because this is where the weakness comes in. The rating is not going to be 15 amps but less and with a vacuum rated at 12 amps you are right in the range of what these are actually rated for.
This seems to be a common issue for all of these switches, they say 15 amps but when you read the fine print so to speak none of them are really good for that amount, anywhere from 9 to 12 amps is maximum.
