Knowlegde needed!!

Post by ERLover »

A bit torn where to post this, because it is a multi question and comment.
I set up shop at moms with some CL used stuff instead of the rent an hour shop, time wise and there time wise was a better deal and theirs was money down the drain, here I may have duo machinery at home I an always sell what ever and get some return on it.
That said, I went and got at my wood provider today some 6/4 Hard Maple and some sheets of Baltic Birch and a piece of White Ash. The Maple is to make some reinforced/trestles footings for that Wood Work bench I bought, the BB for a drawer, and the WA for the face of it.
To the point, I am using a SS jointer on a 1/1/8 HP SS, with sharp blades, I was impressed, .63 wood density as WA and Oaks, but grain structure makes a bit of difference also. I only take a 1/32 ish cut at a time, doing edges. Silky smooth edges and my normal feed rate, nothing slow, I go by sound and resistance. The pieces were 3" high, a bit too much for the fence. I want to add something to the fence for height and length, 2 years ago I watched the SS video on there plan. I will do that, but what material, 3/4" Baltic Birch Polyied to seal it, or as most use for jig Mable the same? My provider of BB is flat not a Big Box stuff?

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them. :)

I say use whatever you have that is flat and straight that is likely to stay that way. ;)

Agree with JPG. I used a leftover cutoff of white melamine-covered particle board shelving from HD. Works great. And with the addition of a couple of SS T-nuts, it doubles as a tall auxiliary fence for my 520.

Add a couple of places to mount feather boards to increase the versatility.

Thanks all, I will have some left over 1/2" BB but not thick enough to counter bore/sink mounting bolts to the SS jointer fence, I will pick up some 3/4 sure cant wait to get the ER on the floor set up for a drill press at moms, need to make the bench for it, next project, still fine tuning other machines stuff here, a progressive order!!!
Life sucks setting up a new shop, floor plan and electrical, I hate cords on the floor, and plugging in and un plugging.

Got enough 1/2" BB to glue up to 1"?

Just did my cut list for the drawer, I will have more then enough BB to double up to 1" for a 30" long X 5-6" high fence piece. When you have not chips and dust much over the last 6 months, the brain gets a bit stale, when it comes to thinking.
