500 fence upgrade description wrong

Post by JPG »

Since I cannot attach a jpeg file to a PM to Admin, I will do so here.

The fence does NOT have only a single clamp. The knob tightens the front clamp and the lever operates the rear clamp only.

Or has the design been altered without my knowledge. ;)

If only it worked on my Cast Iron stuff.

(That would be the Model 10, for you
newer people.) Hate to call them

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

JPG, if it is like my Delta T fence the lever locks the front T to the front fence bar and the back floats but the front locking T holds the back in place, a single action. I dont know if SS is a similar design, but I am going to guess it is. Cant wait for MS answer.

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them. :)

It looks like MY OTHER Delta Fence it locks in the back as well, Rod #7 is adjustable for the rear tension on MY Delta one.

The rod/lever/etc. does NOT lock the front. Yes it will 'pull' the front(16) towards the table, but it does not 'clamp' it.

I think a difference of opinion as to what clamping is perhaps.

Personally I would not use it without securing the screw actuated front clamp 'first'. Maybe that is a 'Mark 5' habit/mindset. The Mark 5 clamps both with a single 'screw' handle sequentially.

Well I took a closer look at my bandsaw fence(same as the 500 upgrade fence, but is shorter).

It could indeed be described as 'single lever lock'(I WAS UNINFORMED[IGNORANT] ).

As I said above the lever lock will also pull the front into the table. It appears that clamping action is quite secure.

So clamping with the front screw lock is apparently not necessary.

Makes me wonder why the entire front clamp set of parts were retained.

I think a screw and knob are likely sufficient.

So I will uses it without setting the front clamp at all 'going forward', but do not use it very much so the jury will be out fer a spell.

Sorry if I have confused anyone! :o
