10E / 10ER Magna Bench and Wall Rack Plans

About a year ago someone asked me if I had 10E / 10ER Magna Bench and Wall Rack Plans that came in the envelope with the original machines.

I knew I had them, but just came across them tonight.

Here you go.... I also added them to VintageMachinery.Org and they are pending approval there as well.

Sorry for the long delay, and for not recalling who originally asked for them.

BTW - If you have the Magna Drop Down Jointer with the special extended headrest, make the bench 6" longer to accommodate and support the Jointer when in dropped position.

I made that bench for my first 10er, it didn't come with a bench and was missing other parts, but for $25.00 I wasn't complaining.

I discovered when I when to install the 10er that it is designed for the 10E with the longer base plate and was thus longer than it needed to be when used with the later, squared off base plate.
So I cut it down to 57" and in retrospect it is still a bit long, I could have gone down to 55".
The instructions for the 10er metal legs also specify a bench length of 57''

I think there are some advantages to this all wood bench over using the metal legs.
- it can easily be made the proper height for the owner, (spindle at elbow level)
- heavier, better for turning.
- and I speculate that it is likely more solid (ie less vibration) but I have no personal experience with the metal legs.

You can definitely add the height with the wooden legs afterward by replacing them, or adding a 4 x 4 sub-frame below and building in a shelf or cabinet frame it for drawers etc.

One fellow I know took one with existing metal legs and built up a 2 x 4 frame on edge underneath the original top, and attached it with 3½-4" longer carriage bolts than what was there before, raising the working height while keeping the adjustable casters.

I have a spare set that I am thinking of making a work-bench with drawers above, retaining the adjustable caster component so I can move it around just as easily.

What color is your unit and is it OEM color to your knowledge? Also what serial number range is yours. I have 10E sn 1414 that looks blue, like your photo.

I got mine in an acquisition. Its a pretty good way to store the extras.

I believe they are both original paint. That photo looks a bit bluer than in person.

A couple different things then my latest save, that little nut below the back side name plate, which I dont have on any of mine, and the indentation and nut by the quill lever, I just have a hole about 1/4" in diam and can see the quill. The opposite side of that hole is the quill lock lever. I just looked at an other ER HS in pieces here, same as the other one.

Mine is that blue in person. Some early accessories from other acquisitions of 10E components in different parts of the country such as a lathe faceplates, that are just the same hue of blue making me suspect that Magna produced a series of the 10E's that color.
