Re: New To Me Pro Planer
Congrats on the great find.
I too have a $200 SS planer.
It came with some accessories: SS 510 and dust collector.
Mine is in brand new condition, never used.
I've yet to use it myself. I might sell it.

Are you sure? The MK V mounted planer can be mounted on a power stand. The planer power stand has a 1 1/2HP motor. That does not make it a Pro Planer. The Pro planer has a cast iron table and is labeled differently.JPG wrote:Initially yes. 1 1/2 hp IIRC. It also has different pulleys. Cutter speed was increased with the later version. Since he has a 1 3/4 hp motor, he has the stand mounted version and the newer pulleys.dusty wrote:Is there a ProPlaner with other than a 1 3/4hp motor. If so, how old is it and is it part number 555082?JPG wrote:Good you got the upgraded version.
Do you have a conical disk?
If so, either also get the sharpening jig or make one.

Did you know that a Mark-Mounted Thickness Planer can be converted to a "stand alone" by utilizing a Planer Power Stand 505977. However, the Power Stands are not currently available from Shopsmith. Wonder why! There is nothing really unique about the parts used to make a power stand.
The sticker shock is that new blades will cost half as much as he got the planer for. Yes, still a steal!
If you did not get the blade height setting gauge, do get one.

Re: New To Me Pro Planer
Yes I am sure re what I posted.
Yes I assumed no significant alterations after OEM manufacture.
Yes it is only a 'Pro Planer' if it came from the factory as such.
Yes I drew conclusions based on earlier posts.
Regardless it still is an extreme bargain!!!

Re: New To Me Pro Planer
Well I was wrong it has the 1 1/2 hp motor. Does this mean it is a SS mounted unit on a power stand? If so is there any advantage to converting back to SS mounted?

Is the table cast iron?

Re: New To Me Pro Planer
The Pro Planer should have granite or cast iron tables, I cant remember which, maybe granite based on the previous post question about granite.

The Greatness officially starts
Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

Re: New To Me Pro Planer
Ain't no granite!
SS wrap IIUC means an aluminum table and not originally a 'pro planer'.
