In my email I received an offer for the Nova G3 at a cost of $164.00, $65.00 off. Is this a good deal? Can I justify it to my wife? Oh, I guess that would be a different issue

I have not checked but I believe it is a good deal. I bought mine a year or so a go on the same sale and it was a good deal then. Remember the SS package comes with an extra set of jaws and the SS adapter. Those would be extra if you bought the chuck anywhere else.

I would say it is a decent deal. Last December I got the Nova 3 w/ pin jaws, 35mm bowl jaws, 50mm jaws, mini Cole jaws and adapter for $175ish at Woodcraft.

I'm thinking of this also to expand my jaw selection.
Prices good until July 22nd.

I think that it is a good deal. It's a great chuck. I use mine quite a bit and never had an issue.

Any Chance we can get a picture of the SS NOVA adapter? I have a NOVA with an adapter but I think its a different style from NOVA's.

I use my NOVA constantly and love it.

The SS adapter has a 5/8" smooth bore as expected but it has an angled set screw to match the tapered flat on the SS spindle like most SS arbors/adapters. As such it is stamped with the letter S to indicate it is SS.

A couple of things to mention here. First if you have the older adapter that came from shopsmith with the G3 from say back in 2006 the stamp will have "F" stamped on it. It has the correct angled set screw.

For a short period of time some of these chucks were shipping with the wrong adapter, the set screw was not at the angle but would have been fine on a plain 5/8" shaft but not for the shopsmith. If you have one of those you need to check and make sure the set screw is at an angle. If it is not then you have the wrong insert for a shopsmith.

I have had the G3 since 2006 and it was a nice chuck. When it came to the point of me wanting/needing a second check I found that Amazon was selling the big brother to the G3 for a decent price so I purchased one of those. It is really nicer in about every way and I would recommend at least looking at before getting the G3. I have both sitting next to each other and I now pick the SUPERNOVA 2 as my chuck of choice and use it and have the G3 as a backup option. See it here, current price $156:

I have had the Oneway Talon sold by SS some years ago and when I wanted another chuck I opted for the G3. I eventually sold the G3 to a fellow club member and bought a second Oneway. I just happen to prefer the Oneway. The differences were minor and amounted to personal preference. If you have never had a chuck then you most likely will be happy with the G3.
