ERLover wrote:De wax shellac works well as a metal coating, Zinzar Seal Coat, about $12 a quart at the BBS, a couple coats, but dries in a few hours. I prefer that and Pentrol over just JPW, but I use it over them. On Cast Iron Shellac and Pentrol seal the pores really well.
I just remembered a product I have used also, Permatex rust treatment.

Same thing BBS or Automotive places, Nappa, Auto Zone, ect

The Greatness officially starts
Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

Re: Cleaning Tubes
Then you want to use the Shellac, Pentrol or the Permatex, these are like a film finish on wood, much more permanent then just wax. And you can use the JPW over them.suntower wrote:Interesting. I was just @ Lowes today and it was on sale. THANKS!
I have no problem using JPW, but frankly, I doubt I'll be using the Shopsmith all that often, so I want something as 'permanent' as possible.
As an ER restorer, I get those steel tubes, that are 60+ years old and in fair shape, but do like to shine them up a bit. But not to Show Pony condition, like some here, just decent and respectable, and I have used all I mentioned here with good results to seal them up and the pits with no rust after wards.

JC, I had the upside down problem also, when using my Iphone. Here's how I fixed it for future pics; Before posting the photos I had to crop the pictures so they were wider than tall. When posting, I then review first.
Assuming we are both using windows 8 or 8.1, click on the single photo in the computer. This will give you a selection of photo fixes at the bottom of the screen. one of these is "crop".
