Get a log get a piece of lighter pine and you will have a fire for free.
If you dont have your onw woods, where are going to get the log? Steal it?
If someone doesn't know where to get a log I question their ability to have a fire safety.
To me these are synonymous, and if they aren't it is probably reason for many forest fires.
Sorry there is burn able wood everywhere. There are tons of bar b que places you can get the wood from, fireplace wood suppliers, recycle centers, forestry service. Tree trimming services, utility companies, new construction sites, almost every road construction site, saw mills and even some lumber companies. And at most of these you can get a log free or for a buck or less. Sorry if you can't get free wood or a log for less than $10 you probably should not be burning it. Think about it it is like lighting a $10 bill and watching it burn.

But the log lasts longer and looks prettier. :D

It is also food safe, like toasting marshmallows for smores, not sure how well a $10 bill would work for that.

I believe that it is also OK to transport one of these logs from area to area while some places don't want you bring wood from another area that could have insects....... some places require you to buy/acquire wood local.

My brother tells me that in WI you need a permits/licenses for all sort of fire wood related items. He use to have a shed where he would sell fire wood but no more, too many regulations etc.

http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/invasives/firewood.html

I think he also told me that when an area is logged that you need a permit to pick up the scrap or was it just for birch???

Anyway too many for some people to deal with so why not spend the $10 and get a log to enjoy. Thinking about how much movie tickets or eating out costs a night by a burning log with family and friends for $10 is a bargain.

Cheaper than the store bought log but more cumbersome to move.

He has been using it to heat his shop for several years now and has it modified to burn pellets. There is also a series of YouTube videos showing the build and refinements/modifications.

You are right and you gave me an idea, special dirt to sit on around the camp fire. Only $10 a 50 lb bag. Think,of it certified dirt to put down and have a nice Bon fire with family and friends. Oh oh got another idea what is camp fire without insects. I will sell you 100 ants for $20 bucks or an assortment of ants and flying bugs, including mosquitos and moths for $50 :D
