Delta Table Saw Motor help
My Delta 36-600 TS motor today stopped starting unless you hand spin the blade and hit the start switch b4 it stops turning. I pulled this up and do not see a capacitor, I just put new brushes in it.
Opinions?

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

Re: Delta Table Saw Motor help
If it has brushes, it will NOT have a capacitor.ERLover wrote:My Delta 36-600 TS motor today stopped starting unless you hand spin the blade and hit the start switch b4 it stops turning. I pulled this up and do not see a capacitor, I just put new brushes in it.

You likely have a brush that is sticking(not riding the commutator) and/or a bad spot on the commutator.

Since I just changed the brushes, I will put my money on a stuck one. Motor still has power though when cutting. Time to maybe get the Jewelers hammer out and some light tapping, one brush was a real PITB to access, and had to turn the saw upside down besides.
THANKS

Re: Delta Table Saw Motor help
I pulled one of the brushes today, this is a pick of it, it has less the 20 minutes run time on it, it started out from new about 3/4". I bought this saw used about 2 months ago, it ran a bit then no power, posted a thread here, and someone said chick the brushes, they still had plenty of length to them, but one was cracked and chipped lengthwise, I ordered up a new set, this is one of them. all separated and you can see the size of it. Opinions?

Re: Delta Table Saw Motor help
I'd open up the motor and check the condition of the commutator. Either it is carnivorous, or someone sold you junk brushes. Or maybe the new brushes were the wrong size. More pics might help.

I got the brushes from here, but noticed arching from the motor vents below the throat plate with them.BuckeyeDennis wrote:I'd open up the motor and check the condition of the commutator. If the armature/commutator was bad, it should have chewed up the ones I replace, they where good except for the one that was cracked. May be one was not seated, arching and chewed up the commutator and this brush. I have not pulled that one yet, PITA to get to. Maybe tomorrow with bros help just to investigate further.

Re: Delta Table Saw Motor help
I am not a motor guy, but if by all the Arching I saw did a bit of scoring to the motor shaft, and I put in new brushes just to make it run, for the next CL buyer, no way, not my integrity, I will eat it. Can afford it an my personal integrity is worth more then $150ish, that is who I am. It ran when I bought, I dont think the seller, in good faith was selling me a problem, poop happens.

Re: Delta Table Saw Motor help
Does the motor plate show a frame size, RPM, etc.? You might be able to pick up a used motor cheap on CL or eBay.
