It IS upside down. It has been lowered out of the way for other operations. It rotates up CW 180° to normal operating position.

Freaky. -Mine- doesn't rotate like that.

Anyhoo... the last problem I'm having (I think) is fixing the Guard. I'd like to be able to get the existing guard to 'spring'. What I think I -need- is a piccie (or a video or a live person) to demonstrate how the tensioner under the cap works.

It sounds pathetic, but even $50 is a -lot- for me right now. If I can get some $5 solution, I'll go for that.

I'm obviously dumber than a bag o' hammers.

1. I screw the cap onto the hex pin so it's finger tight. Now if the hex pin fit into the hex hole in the table, how can the cap -possibly- rotate?

OR does this mean that the cap is -not- screwed down all the way on the dowel?

2. I assume the next to last washer in the drawing is a lock washer, right? Can I use -any- lock washer or is that a SS-specific part?

3. I guess my spring is the wrong spring as it has no upper 'arm' to lock into the cap.

I know it's a big favour, but could someone who -has- this guard take a piccie of it disassembled so I can -see- what it looks like? I'm just not getting it from the line drawing. I need to see what the spring/washer look like.

I also wish there was a video that showed someone actually -turning- that cap. But I don't wanna sound needy.

Oh wise one....

If the cap is tightly screwed onto the hex pin. And the hex pin fits into a hex hole in the table.

Then -how- can the cap rotate?

The cap/hex pin are rotated before inserting in the hole in the bed to pre tension the spring.

1) Hold the guard in your left hand with the blade cover portion facing away from you.

2) Turn the spring to pre-load the tension on the spring.

3) Without letting it move or un-tension the spring, insert the hex portion of the assembly into the hole on the Jointer.

4) Let go of the guard. The spring tension you created will then close the guard over the blade opening, allowing it move away when you attempt to pass stock across the blades, and return when the stock passes through.

Thanks for the replies! Starting to get the concept. I think I just don't have the right parts.

So... here are the remaining pieces of the jigsaw puzzle (ie. the parts still at the bottom of the box after trying to put everything back together on my own.)

Does this look like the correct spring? I can't figure out how to hook it onto the cap?

Is this the correct washer (with the hex hole). Does it attach to the spring somehow?
