Shopsmith storage cabinet... Again

Got the cabinets installed, drawers fitted and drawer handles made and installed. All in all a good day in the shop !

Nicely done. Question though for you. Do you handles get in the way of the table tubes if the table goes all the way down? or is your cabinet shallow enough that it wont matter? I know for the size of my cabinet, any handles towards the upper third or half would be hit by the table height tubes.

Based on the pic I think it could happen if the tubes were over a handle and needed to be lowered, but that would be so low for most operations it would not be an issue, just move HS and table position to adjust for it.
Oops, just looked at the pics again, looks like the table tubes may hit the cabinet top But that was not from a true side view, maybe just camera angle. I dont think the sailor would make that mistake

Yes they do. I made the decision to use drawer handles anyway. I considered using inset handles or just router holes in the drawer fronts. In the end I figured I would just open up a top drawer when the need arises. The only time it should come into play is when I am horizontal boring something fairly large.

I think its just the angle. My cabinets are a tight fit as well (around 1/8-1/4" gap on front and back. But that was designed to be on purpose, however its also why I do not use handles.

But the handles could be low enough not to touch the bottom of the tubes. Worst case scenario, he isn't looking, lowers table, and the Shopsmith assists him in moving the handles to the correct height.

I would like to know however, as I am going to need handles for my drawers in my center cabinet and am debating similar handles or to route out 30 degree finger holes into the drawer face itself to act as a sort of handle.

Ooo well there is my answer, posted while I typed. :P

You do make a good point though with just opening the drawer and for very few applications. However for me I could see myself not paying attention when putting the table back on and watching it fall down to my horror.

I do like how they look however. Very nice, very functional. Maybe I will take the risk and put handles on myself.

On my 2 work benches, with lower cabinet/drawers I did the finger groove thing, even though the bench top hangs over them, I sit at my bench a lot and did not want my knees banging into handles.

Drill hole in drawer front at the center near the top. Sized so the ss toolkit will just clear.

Insert short end of ss toolkit and pull on long end.

Bonus: Several places to store ss tool kit.

Here is a pic of my solution when the need arises. Oh and JPG I don't do oops. At least not very often
