No, the choice of panels for mounting was for when the door was closed. When open the panel chosen for mounting will not alter the height when open since all the panels are then horizontal and at the same height. A short door needs it mounted to a higher(when door closed) panel than a taller door with the same number but taller panels.

Re: Shopsmith Table Storage System
The point was when the door is open, putting it on a higher panel would not make much difference on its suspended distance to the floor. NOT how high it is mounted on the door when closed. JPG, why do ya always have to get the last word in? Thats tends to be a bit of insecurity, if I may hang out my Shingle, and at your age, education, experience and wisdom, you should be beyond thatJPG wrote:No, the choice of panels for mounting was for when the door was closed. Re: Shopsmith Table Storage System
Boy, I really opened a new discussion when I mistakenly said I would have hung it on a higher panel, everybody is right, that would not alter the height of the hanging table sections when the door was open, that would only change the location where they hang when the door was open. If it was a regular height door and the hanging tables would be in the way, I would have devised a way to retain the tables so they didn't hang down. But the real purpose was to utilize this unused space.

You have been around the forum long enough to know that criticism comes quickly. I quite frankly thought your idea was excellent and made good use of space. I would attempt something similar but I do not believe my garage door mechanism would take the strain. My doors are flimsy by comparison to what I see in your photos and it groans and moans when I put the door up.jjbuzard wrote:Boy, I really opened a new discussion when I mistakenly said I would have hung it on a higher panel, everybody is right, that would not alter the height of the hanging table sections when the door was open, that would only change the location where they hang when the door was open. OK Michael. Go back to post 220515.
It displays the relevant posts.
Read them in sequence.
They are about the height on the door when closed.
Last word, NO. Least misleading, that is the purpose.
This is not about 'opinion'.
Oh and yes it is a very clever modification/implementation and also done well.
No criticism intended from here(nor any one else in this thread).

Re: Shopsmith Table Storage System
Hey guys, I didn't take any of it as criticism, typing on the fly without thinking actually, moving to a higher panel would not change the hanging height, but this old brain didn't calculate that. But if you position your Shopsmith were the tables hang, no problem. If it was a problem a simple tether would allow the tables to swing away enough to clear when the section goes around the curve in the track and hold them up out of the way. Fortunately my door is taller and not a problem. If I didn't want input I wouldn't post. Thanks to all of you and your input. I wish there had been or was a YouTube video of the way to use it. I am still figuring out how to assemble and disassemble the table system for storage. Shopsmith is no help in that area, it is kind of like Barrymore after listening to "War of the Worlds"and thinking it was real, turned his dogs loose and told them, "Fend for yourself boys."

Apparently Barrymore did not listen all the way to the end of Mercury Theater.

No critizim intended here.
JPG, I was a bit crabby last night, sorry.
Ya a tether would work nicely if needed.
