To Hang or Not to Hang?

Beautiful! I've started one of these and got distracted. Need to finish it!

The added weight is on the clamping bar, not the casting.

I think it stout enough. Realize it will also be loading the two screws and casting threads.

I have mine hung from the tubes. Word of caution, if you overload it , the legs will deflect and your caster bars will pop out of the bracket. I'm toying with the idea of making mine free standing.

I go with 2 u-shaped brackets to hang the unit. It's nice to bring the tools with you. But I hate the original design to have permanent hangers. Mine are held in by 2 bolts on each side. Take them out and leave the cabinet in place. I consider it a convertable.

If stress on the tubes is a concern... Could always add casters to the cabinet and then slot the hangers so they float on the bolts and simply guide them with the shopsmith.

I decided to hang mine, with a quick disconnect.

When the Shopsmith is raised the Cabinet goes up with it and moves as a unit with the Shopsmith., when lowered the cabinet sits on the castors.If I want to move the cabinet away from the Shopsmith, unclip the lynch pines and roll it away. This way the only time there is added weight to the Shopsmith is when the whole unit is raised and being moved.

I used tape to lay out holes for U-Bolt

Made the U- Hook using 1 " Wide Aluminum bt 1/8" thick, bent it over a piece of Bench Tube.

I really like the look of masonsailor2's cabinet!

I have been haven the same thought, and think when I come to build one, it will be removable and have casters on the bottom to wheel out of the way as necessary. I've also toyed with the idea of working a dust collection top into the project.

For those who have made them, do you find the space useable, or is it a little low for ease of use?
