Non-skid/.mar feet for Mark V stand

I've moved my Mark V to the basement for the winter. The basement has laminate flooring that I'd like to protect and also keep the Mark V from skidding on during operations.

I expect to use the Mark V only occasionally, so prefer not to put an overlay flooring down.

Does anyone have experience or suggestions putting a floor protector/skid on their Mark V?

I have used a piece of floor runner under other things that I want to protect my floor from in the past and cannot see where using one under a SS would not work. It would not be attached to the SS but is easily movable. Most big box stores carry both precut lengths and rolls that they will cut to any length you desire. They are designed for covering high traffic areas or stairs in many different materials. I would just not choose a thick carpet runner.

I would consider buying an anti fatigue floor mat to stand on, and depending on what you find for that, you may be able to buy a smaller one you can trim to fit under the ends of the Shopsmith, just outside the casters, allowing it to land on the mat when retracted.

To further protect that floor I would also recommend you consider the 556224 Premium Caster Upgrade at $42.99 if you do not have them. They will make moving it much easier, and protect the flooring while allowing you to move it for cleaning, and lubrication, every 10 hours of use.

I have used what Shopsmith calls a leg boot 513969 on my 510 for over 20 years. It is from the planer stand and old power stands. I put them on so the bottom of the legs wouldn't rust. It also softens the drop a little from the casters. In my situation it also acts as a vibration dampener. I ordered new ones about a year ago and they were about 1.50 each.

That sounds like a much better approach than what I do, which is to try to pull up on the way tubes when lowering the machine off of the casters, but that doesn't always lessen the impact. The Shopsmith Products pages don't show a picture of the leg boots ... could you perhaps take a picture of yours, or describe them verbally, such as their overall size, thickness, and how they attach? Thanks!

I tried, but they didn't fit on my 520 legs. Paul must have a purty-dang-good bootie stretcher.

They do not fit very well on the other two stands either.

I've never tried it for feet but it might work.

You could cut a few sets out of a 12" x 12" piece, perhaps a life times supply.

Oh, I forgot to tell you about the bootie stretcher. Actually the leg boots fit my 510 pretty easily. I just tried a new one to double check and I had to "open" it up a little to slide it on but once there in conforms pretty well. I wouldn't think SS has different syles of legs. My first ones have been on for over 25 years.
