Strange , Fruitless Debate!

My other 10ER, (dedicated drill press), has the cord coming out though the back of the casting.

I had always assumed that it had come that way from the factory, but on closer examination I now think it was drilled by a previous owner.
There is no visible strain relief, but the cord has a very thick insulation and is a fairly snug fit in the hole. I also suspect that the small bolt just below the cord is anchoring the cord inside the headstock somehow.

Having one done each way I really can't see any advantage in drilling a hole for the cord. KISS

I don't know why you would ever say such a thing. You of all people. I believe Bigsky is an infrequent visitor to the forum. One must really understand the personalities of this forum to fully grasp the tone of what is said.

Thanks again for the discussion and posts! I hope I can somehow return the favor.

It was the switch. I have installed a new cord to the switch, a new switch, crimping, soldering and shrink wrapping all of the connections. I did everything I could think of to secure the connections and cord, using the zip tie approach.

I opened up the motor to replace the cord from the switch to the motor and was instantly lost, so I blew the motor out, wrapped the cord where it exits the motor just to make sure, and moved on. I figure at some point this spring/summer (I work in an unheated garage)I'll pull the motor and take it to a shop.

One note-my 16yo son who builds drones and robots suggested hot glue to secure the connections. I passed on that advice, but your posts gave my son and I some great discussion fodder, which, with a 16yo is priceless.

I have everything hooked up and the motor sounds great. Following my dad's advice I am taking a break, then will go reinspect everything before really using.

Randy, Thank You for the update. I am so thankful that this worked out "for you" better than what I was envisioning. Connecting the power cord into the motor should be a rather simple task. Mine are all connected with solderless, crimped connectors. Just make sure you record which wire goes where. A few shots from a smart phone really can be a life saver.

This, by the way, is what this forum is all about; helping someone back into operation.
