Chisel Sharpening Jig ?

Post by db5 »

I no longer can sharpen by sight nor feel as I'm just shy of being an octogenarian. Does anyone have a sharpening jig you've built that you would share?

I use the Wolverine system by One way, for my lathe tools. You did not say if for lathe tools or bench chisels. Bob

I have other sharpening rigs but I thought that this one looked simple and effective when I saw it a couple of days ago.

What I'm looking for is a home-made jig for sharpening chisels on whetstones so that the angle will be correct.

Before switching to a Worksharp, I was using an inexpensive honing guide, such as the one for $9.99 here: https://www.woodcraft.com/search?utf8=% ... ton=search. It worked well enough, I made a couple length gauges from scrap wood so I could replicate angles easily. I would've bought the Veritas Mk II, but they weren't available at that time (some sort of longish term supply or contract issue, maybe?).

Here's one homemade guide, although the parts, if you had to buy, might be close to the same as a cheap pre-made:

Mark V/510, Mark V/500 with parts for 510 upgrade, bandsaw, jointer, belt sander, DC3300 w/1 micron bag
Sawstop 3HP 36" PCS w/router table insert
Home designed and built CNC router, another CNC router :D desktop size, Avid 5x10 Pro CNC w/ATC, CNCed G0704 milling machine
Laser engraver
Way too much other stuff and not enough space

Whenever I'm diligent enough to use this, I'm pleasantly surprised. Bonus: Made in USA!
