Dust Deputy for Festool, anyone have one?

It is that time of year again where the funds that are set aside get spent. This years budget has several Festool items and since they are raising their prices(again) I'm moving my purchases of their products up a couple of months.

One item I want is the CT26 Dust Extractor. If you buy say a router or domino then add the dust collector you save 10% on the extractor. With their prices any thing you can get off is worth it. So now it is deciding which tool I want to go with the dust extractor.... (leaning towards the router at this point.)

So I'm really use to having a dust deputy and really like how they work. Extending that to the new dust collector it seems that Festool has a problem with static and you need to have a special dust separator, one with static control. I guess that makes since that if you are going to go this route that it also mounts atop the unit.

Ed I don't think you would like that set up for a couple or reasons. First it will greatly hinder the mobility of the Festool Vac. Secondly the vac hose will be coming out at a very high point. Remember that you will also have a cord attached to the vacuum as well. I zip-tie my cord to the hose and it works very well. If you buy the router it comes with the heaver cord and that would be the one to attach to the hose and use for everything. You really cant tell the difference in the weight from the lighter gauge cords. I do this every day and all day and rarely change bags over once a month so it isn't that big of an expense for the bags. I stock up on them whenever they have a sale on dust collectors and accessories. In the dust deputy ad they talk about clogged filters. That just doesn't happen with the CT26/48 series of vacs. In the old 22"s I had some bad paper bags that ruptured and clogged the Hepa filters but no such thing with the newer style vacs and bags.

That Festool path is a slippery one and it will make you despise some of you other tools!

You made a good points that I had not thought about. I was thinking the higher hose would be a good thing since it would be closer to the working height and thus easier to work with. I had not thought about the power cord plugging in. This will be new to me. I do have an automatic turn on/off plug in but it is not co-located with the dust collector. This will be interesting getting use to another way of doing things.

Yes I can feel myself slip-sliding away already. Last year was the track saw and MFT this year it looks like the router and ct26. I'd also like the Kapex and the Domino but they will have to be in another year or two.

Oneida actually makes a dust deputy that mounts on the Festool dust extractors. I am sure you can cobble something up. Do a search dust deputy and festool.

Sorry after I posted I went back and reread your post and saw that you had already discovered that there is a dust deputy for Festool. Need to read initial post more closely. sorry!

Rockler makes an in-line dust separation system and I suspect others. It fits between vacuum source and pick up hose system.

Been looking at one that is used on car wash systems that has central pickup vacuum and multiple stations. Their cyclone head wall mounts and has a removeable receptacle below that snaps on and off at each station.

I have had the Ultimate Dust Deputy on my CT22 for years. I also have be boom arm setup. I haven't had toput a new bag in the CT22 since I put the UDD on it probably 8 or 9 years ago. I am a UDD fan for sure, and TS55, domino, RO 90, RO 125... you get the point. That said my setup never moves more than 3 or 4 feet.

Ed, FWIW, I made the Dust Deputy cart below a few years ago out of scrap lumber & leftover luan plywood. It was my first experiment with a dado stack and decent joinery, and I learned a lot. Putting the accessory holders in the corners turned out to be a very good idea.

My original plan was to hitch this thing to my Ridgid shop vac, and tow them both around together. But it worked out much better to leave them unhitched, and generally just move the cart around. Much more flexible/extensible that way.

And BTW, I just took that pic. The cart has been bare nekkid these last few years, but a couple weekends ago it came in handy for test-spraying shellac with my new $9 HF spray gun.

Yes I knew about the static issue and Festool. The newer version of the dust deputy setup should take care of that issue as it now has anti-static features.

I own 2 of the regular dust deputy DIY versions. I really like them. I got my first one in June of 2009 and my second Dec. 2015. The one is on the cart with my larger vacuum and even after a couple of years of use there is almost no dust in the vacuum. The other one I have free standing with a bucket buddy which helps out a lot with tipping issues. So after having these for a while I was thinking that the addition to the festool dust collect might make since.

I was able to find one for a few dollars less but have not really shopped around yet. I didn't set money aside for one either so I will have to go for a while with just the CT26. After I have some time with the tools I'll have a better idea how the system works and if I want to change out some tools for one or not this year or ever.

The new Festool stuff will be here on Monday. We have snow predicted for then so I don't know when I'll be able to get out and try the tools out. Of course the weather has been know to change and change often.

I don't know if anyone has decide they might want the festool dust deputy but if you have they are on sale for $40 off. Just like just means something when talking these tools but at $209 it is a just a little more justifiable then before. Prices good until 4/30/17.

I'm still on the fence. To get to even you will now have to buy 5.5 packages of bags for the CT26. Now how many days of eating oatmeal to afford it, well that is another matter.
