New Mark 7 is Ordered

Post by mbcabinetmaker »

So I decided to go by the Shopsmith demo after 8:30 church service today. I had never seen the Prower Pro up close and personal before. Paul the demo guy and I were talking new head stock for my 520 vs new Mark 7 and he was quoting prices when my wife ask if I was just getting a new headstock. I replied that that was an option but also explained the advantages of going with the Mark 7. She said well it would be advantageous tax wise to go with the 7. Well I thought I needed to go get my hearing checked because she never encourages me to buy equipment. We started crunching numbers and talking Lowes discounts vs 18 months same as cash etc*****. It was just too much and since there was a line out the front of IHOP when we drove by I hadn't even had coffee yet. Our niece was coming to our house at 12:00 to pick up some chairs that we were giving her so I said let's go get breakfast and talk about the purchase before going to meet our niece so that's what we did. Well sweet little niece was about 2 hours late so I got busy around the house. My wife had gone in to look over the finances because I had already decided not to purchase right now on the 18 month plan and loose the 5% discount. I was planning to wait a while longer until I could pay cash but after everyone left with the free furniture my wife said we had the money on hand if I wanted to order the Mark 7. You don't have to tell me twice!! ;) Well actually she did. :o Anyway back to Lowes and we went through the entire demonstration again so I gave her ample time to change her mind. :p

I opted for the free bandsaw and ordered an upgrade kit to use my current lift assist. Now just need to decide what to do with the 520.

Congratulations!

The powerpro has it own lift cylinder to make up for the added 25 pounds or so. You can get that as an upgrade in case your interested. You can normally call these guys and add on something and still get the demo pricing.

Sounds pretty much how I bought mine. I did not buy a full up MK 7. Just the new head stock and double tilt kit. This was in Dec 2012. We went to Salt Lake to the Lowe's for a demo. My wife is a wood worker so she trusts me when we spend money on wood work stuff. I was on the fence due to the cost (not that I didn't have the money). We left and came back because she said if you want it get it.

The demo guy turned out to be Dave Folkerth. We had a great time talking about Hans Goldschmidt and the 10ER.

I used the 18 month no interest on the Lowe's credit card and also got my 10% military discount. :D

As for your 520, make a dedicated drill press. You will never regret it.

Outstanding, the machine certainly changes the game, that is for sure. If you have room (even if you don't LOL) keep your 520. Just my .02.

Congrats! Did they give you a delivery date?

No delivery date as of now. The order will be turned in this morning and I should get a call from the mother ship.
