10ER Table saw blade attachment
My SS 10ER came without a table saw blade and I can't find a photo of a the saw installed on the SS. I'm wondering if I will need to order an adapter or if I have something in the bucket that works for this... photo of the piece that holds the blade in would be helpful.
Also, while I've seen many threads on blades, im open to any recommendations on brand as well: I'd probably get a combination blade. I'm all over the map on what type of wood I'll cut.

Easy question but hard to answer correctly.
What model Shopsmith do you have?

There are two different arbors for the SS. http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... arbors.htm The normal blade arbor sold with a new SS is for 1 1/4 " Shopsmith blades while the 5/8 " arbor allows you buy the common blades for a table saw. There is also a special arbor for dado sets. http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... oarbor.htm There are different part numbers depending on what actual SS model you own.

This is a 10er thanks
Re: 10ER Table saw blade attachment
The 10ER came with what is essentially the current Molder/Dado arbor.Ek1050 wrote:My SS 10ER came without a table saw blade and I can't find a photo of a the saw installed on the SS. The 10ER version came in either 1/2" or 5/8" diameter. There have been slight changes over the years but they are all the same in function.
The current SS 5/8" saw blade arbor will also work on the 10ER.

The picture shows 3 10ER arbors and one current Molder/Dado arbor. The two on the left are 10ER but are missing one thin washer I think. I don't know if they were ever sold with just one thin washer. The accessory catalog I have shows two thin washers but it is from 1953 which was the end of the 10ER production. The one on the bottom right is a 10ER with the two washers. The one on the top right is a current SS Molder/Dado arbor.
They all come up on eBay all the time so they are easy to get.

Strangely enough, we were discussing these arbors just last month.Ek1050 wrote:My SS 10ER came without a table saw blade and I can't find a photo of a the saw installed on the SS. The 10er's came with a universal 5/8" arbor like this.
and disassembled
All that said, a later Mark V 500 arbor should work too.
They came with one thick and two thin washers, for saw blades one thick and one thin would be used, for thicker things like a dado stack the two thin washers would be used. As only two of the washers were used a time by the time you get it there will probably only be two, one thick and one thin.
Note the washers have a recess on one side, that side goes against the blade.
With blade mounted and on the spindle.
When Mark 5 was introduced the arbor was changed slightly, a key slot was added to the shaft and a thin washer with a key was added, also a larger set screw was used (all Mark 5/V set screws use the same size Alan key, 10er's have four different sizes.)

Re: 10ER Table saw blade attachment
After getting the arbor, make sure you use an 8" blade to avoid any surprises. An 8 1/4" blade is a touch too big. You can use it, but won't be able to fully lower the table without the blade hitting the table insert.

Re: 10ER Table saw blade attachment
I haven't had that problem, but then I have a Mark 5 lower blade guard installed when using the saw function. I guess it prevents the table from going down all the way.ChrisNeilan wrote:After getting the arbor, make sure you use an 8" blade to avoid any surprises. An 8 1/4" blade is a touch too big. Re: 10ER Table saw blade attachment
I would strongly recommend the current molder dado arbor since it has the keyed washer and keyed shaft.
If you can get an older version with the key/washer that is as good.
Y'all realize has has a model 10!!!!!
