Rare or Odd is it worth anything?
Some years back I got this off ebay for about half the price of a new one as I recall. When I got it I realized it was not what I thought it was, that being an insert for a 510/520.
The seller was all of a sudden gone off ebay and I was stuck with it. This was way back when I had just started to use ebay and didn't know any better so I just stuck it away.
Now it's out and I took a picture with hopes of finding out what it does fit. I expect it to be a now rare part for a ?????
So if you know what it is/was for let me know. Also if you think I were to list it on ebay would people be looking for it and would it be worth selling and for what starting price........ or should I throw it back in a box for another time.
The stock 520 insert is on the bottom, the unknown version is on the top.

Other than the slot, does it fit?reible wrote:Some years back I got this off ebay for about half the price of a new one as I recall. When I got it I realized it was not what I thought it was, that being an insert for a 510/520.

AFAIK, they are both SS. I have one like your "stock" one that I modified to match the other one that I have that is also SS. The one with the long slot I am sure came with my then 510 bought new in 1994. The other one with the shorter slot like your "stock" one was as I remember bought new some time after 1994.
As I remember I discovered the difference when I was using the sanding disk and I could not lower the table all the way without hitting the insert.
The first picture shows my "stock" insert on the bottom. The insert on top is like yours that I modified to match the lower one. The second picture shows the insert as modified. You can see where the bevel of the factory slot ends. That matches your "stock" insert. Yours is off a bit on the other end so maybe there were 3 versions.

No, the slot in the dado insert is much wider and much shorter.beeg wrote:Is the top one an insert for use with the dado blade.

Another thing I just noticed is that your unknown does not have the tabs on either side of the slot at the center. Both of mine have the tabs.jsburger wrote:Other than the slot, does it fit?reible wrote:Some years back I got this off ebay for about half the price of a new one as I recall. IIWM, I would just keep it for use with the sanding disk. I know nothing re it's origin.

What you have is the Disc Sander Table Insert - don't know why John's was ground on.

Re: Rare or Odd is it worth anything?
I did that. It originally had the shorter slot (saw blade insert???). I lengthened it so I didn't have to change inserts for the sanding disk.everettdavis wrote:What you have is the Disc Sander Table Insert - don't know why John's was ground on.

Re: Rare or Odd is it worth anything?
Sorry I'm a bit tardy on this thread.
I've upgraded the video card on my PC, new key board and upgraded to the new fast ring windows 10 so I had a little down time. New monitor will be here on Sat. No problems but it sure was interesting when I pulled my old video card. The heat sink under the fun was packed with dust and I mean packed. I was pulling it out in chunks. This was just an attempt to keep the system relevant for a bit longer.
I wanted to look at the insert again after read about it in the "catalog" and noting it has a "beveled underside to allow for sanding with the table tilted". When I saw the bevel I was pretty sure what it was but wanted to get the main table mounted and a sanding disk in place to be sure. I had been set up to do some belt sanding and with that project finished just before 4:00 yesterday I was free to try it out.
No doubt that is what it is. If I had been able to be a bit more prompt and getting here I could have announce that. As it was the answer had come out when I got back here so you already know. I did take a couple of pictures yesterday so I'll include them for future reference.
In this picture you can see the bevel, well it can be seen but you have to look carefully.
Here it is in place with the sanding disk mounted and the table down as low as it can go.
Thank you to those that helped out with this.
