Today in the shop "conduit trellis"

This years conduit project is a trellis. Sixteen and a half lengths of conduits with two shorter lengths left over.

I don't know why but I like making conduit projects. And this one was fun and I hope useful. I went with stainless steel hardware for this project, just for a change of pace over the last couple of projects.

There was a few none through holes in wood and a bunch of hole is the conduit, some done on the shopsmith and others with a drill guide and drill. The shopsmith holes were easy, not so much for the other holes.

Anyway it is just about done. I need to go back and tighten all the fasteners and do a little caulking of joints to eliminate some of the major water collections issues. Doesn't have to be water tight just don't want the tubes of water rusting away the tubes before their time.

Here are a couple of pictures. It is standing in the middle of the yard while I finish it up. Next spring it will have to be in position and have the bird net added for the vines to get started growing on. This should have been ready for this past spring but back issues prevented it.

I've added some cedar lattes to the mix. The ones on the left have been on a few days and are conforming nicely. I just added the two on the right, if we get some rain tonight, which we might they will start the process of bending to fit as well.

Have to decide if I want to add more to the top or not. Vines don't really need it but it sort of looks unfinished to me the way it is. Have to think on it for a while yet, but the 11% off at Menard's ends this week so I better make up my mind.

Nice work! Just out of courtesy, I'll refrain from doing 150 daily chin-ups on your trellis. My aging physique is not vine-like any more.

Nice. What kind of vines do you plan to grow on the trellis? A few years ago I made a heavy duty trellis for my wisteria vines. The wisteria gets quite heavy by the end of the growing season, so I wanted a trellis that would hold a lot of weight.
I started with landscape timbers set into the ground at the corners and tied them together on top with top rail for chain link fence. The timbers are also bolted together with threaded ready rod through chain link pipes for stability.

Right now we are debating the final destination of the trellis. We have three places it could go but haven't got to trying it in those locations to see how it "feels".

The second debate is over what will grow on it. That is dependent on what location is finalized on.

Been a ruff year garden wise. I had back issues in the spring and go the garden almost wasn't but it did get in at a lower level, and late.

Then we have had two hail storms, the second one was the worst garden wise, quarter size hail will do that.

The it was the season of the Japanese Beetles, I must have reduced their population by 10,000 but still the plants they like were heavily damaged.

Then the critters have been bad this year. Check out this guys work:

We don't mind sharing but it has been excessive this year. Even with the two layers of fence it managed to get in to this nice one from the outside.

Not to mention a rabbit who likes green pepper plants(twice), mind you just the green pepper plants, the red and yellow must not taste good??

Anyway it has been an interesting year garden wise.

I have been invaded by groundhogs for two years in a row,.
Might have to eat the groundhogs.

Like the trellis....

I could use a covered trellis instead of tarps for my fire wood .
Thought about a PVC trellis but not sure how rigid it would be.


Neat idea .
