I have been battling a RPS error for a month or tow (see string below. Did a DIY PP upgrade in 2014-worked great until earlier this year. Have replaced the power supply-worked for 3-5 days RPS error returned. Working w SS support, now replaced speed sensor and another new power supply (pending)

I looked for instructions and comments on replacing the speed sensor-could not find the details. Received instructions from SS technical support.
I am posting the instructions here with my comments on the experience. Also including some pictures.....
Instructions to Replace Shopsmith Power Pro Speed Sensor
1. Remove the motor, remove 3-screws that hold the black plastic cowling on the motor.
2. Under the cowling is the fan. To remove the fan, remove snap ring using snap ring pliers, for external snap rings, and a 2.5 mm Allen wrench. Suggest a long handle Allen wrench
3. Remove the snap ring and loosen the setscrew on shaft and the fan will slide off the shaft—found to wobble back and forth to remove-doesn’t just slide off.
4. Under the fan is the speed sensor. Two screws hold it in place.
5. Remove the old speed sensor and install the new speed sensor.-Suggest you blow out any dirt or dust. Pay attention to how cable is positioned with new speed sensor. Make sure cable and two screws are positioned so as to not be impacted by spinning fan/motor—a tight fit. There are two small shafts in the screw holes for screws. Be careful with these.
6. Replace the fan and snap ring and tighten the setscrew.
7. Replace the cowling and install the motor.

Re: Speed Sensor for Power Pro-Replacement Instructions
Thank you, c2h60, so much for the PDF Instructions!
I don't need them at this time, but can never tell when or if I might.
This completely answers your earlier questions on how to remove the black plastic cover. ----- And fan and sensor.
Never knew what the sensor looked like - never even had an idea!
Also, need to thank you for your tenacious attitude in dealing with this issue. Any guys having similar issues now have information other than "need to call shopsmith".
Sorry for all of your frustrations, but there is a big THANK YOU for passing along this information. I am sure the guys in the forum will benefit from your information, even if they never witness failure of a speed sensor.
You have succeeded in some of the mysteries of how the PowerPro works. Thank you again!!

Re: Speed Sensor for Power Pro-Replacement Instructions
Just don't violate any warranty restrictions. That is the biggest reason why I would call Customer Service before I did anything inside the PowerPro..

Yes--agreed. Everything I did was in consultation with SS Tech Service
Re: Speed Sensor for Power Pro-Replacement Instructions
I began having low speed problems with my power pro and finally ended up with an rps error. Followed the directions for moving the fan up closer to the board. During the process I tried to remove the fan by removing the snap ring and the set screw. Noticed the fan would only move up or down about an 1/8 of an inch but something would not allow the fan to come off the shaft. Looks like there is some other material in the set screw hole that keeps the fan from being removed (the set screw is very small). There is a slot below the set screw which makes me think there is an additional procedure that needs to be done in order to remove the fan. Got the motor to run again but I don't have any confidence that it will continue working for long. Has anyone run into this problem not being able to remove the fan so you can get to the speed board?
Thanks
