Hybrid bottle stopper

Tried my hands at casting resin. Bottle stopper from carpenter ant eaten maple and alumalite resin. Wood stabilized with cactus juice. Turned.

OK it happened. Interesting look to say the least, that could be a real conversation piece.

Just how big is "really large photos!!!"? I'm stuck back 3 versions but then mine was free from my son so I can't really complain.

The original photo was 24.7 MB! I have not adjusted the camera settings yet.

Very cool! Did you make the brass stopper part as well? How did you cast the resin in/around the wood?

The stopper came from Ruth Niles (http://nilesbottlestoppers.com/). The resin is Alumalite 2 part Casting resin (turntex.com). I placed the piece of wood into a mold and poured the resin over it. It then is placed in a pressure po=t under 55 pounds of pressure to eliminate any bubbles. Wait a few hours and crack it open! Drill a hole and mount it on a mandrel and then turn it.
