Bread Box

My daughter asked me to make a bread box for her birthday present.

Their cat is an insatiable eater, and even though they keep the bread on top of the fridge, he manages to get up there and destroy the loaf.

This is the finished product,

Instead of using hinges I made a linkage on each side so the lid pivots up and sits on the top.

It took a bit of trial and error to get the length and position of the arms right, but it works like a champ.

And here it is in it's new home, making the world a safer place for loaves of bread.

In the making of this bread box I needed a dado insert for the 10er, A few minutes with the bandsaw, disk sander, drill press, and a scrap of wood, and I was good to go, This was the first zero clearance insert I've made, but it won't be the last.

I got the idea for the linkage from this video.



Archie (the cat) may have trouble getting up on the fridge with the box in that position.

I just delivered it yesterday, won't get an update till next Sunday. He is not that smart, but he is persistent.
