I am looking into trying to find the year this unit was manufactured. It is a Model ER. Serial 44038. I got this shopsmith from my Grandpa who bought it new. I have the original manual and other original paper materials. Nothing indicates a year of manufacture. I would love to restore this and start using it
for projects. Any info/help is greatly appreciated. I will also attach a few pictures if this helps.

Re: Finding Year Manufactured
I don't see serial# 44038 on here. Would this be made in 1951 or maybe an earlier year?
Thanks,
Kevin

Ya think 'maybe' it was between 43925 and 44181?KSchaefer wrote:I don't see serial# 44038 on here. Would this be made in 1951 or maybe an earlier year?

All those below 1951* are 1951.
That list is from a survey conducted by Skip and is input from responders.

Re: Finding Year Manufactured
That makes sense now that it was from a survey being done. Any suggestions on how to clean this up. Removing rust from ways, etc?

Re: Finding Year Manufactured
Welcome to the forum. I believe that most of your answers may be found in the first few sticky posts at the top of the Maintenance and Repair section, especially in the Shop Smith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More by Everett Davis. He has put together a large amount of information on rust removal and other information that may be of help.
