Incra Miter Sled 5000
Hello, being new to the SS and just purchasing a Incra Miter Sled 5000 I am looking for some help with installing the Sled. The left and right issue is very confusing. Could someone with experience with installing this system simplify the install process, if that's possible ;-}.
Thanks
Thanks

I had the same problem figuring out what to do when mine arrived. The box had a brightly colored tag that said don't change the left/right configuration. Inside the box there was another brightly colored tag that said you must change the left/right configuration. To determine what to do I went to the SS website and viewed a photograph of one installed on a Mark V. I configured mine to match the photograph on the Shopsmith web site. The web site photo is wrong! I confirmed this later at a traveling academy where they had one on display. The following day, I actually printed out the Shopsmith page from the web site and took it to the academy to compare it to the way they had theirs configured. It was backwards. I pointed this out to the instructor who said he would let them know back at Dayton. The following week they discontinued traveling academies on the east coast. I didn't realize they would take my comments so critically, but have decided not to cause any more trouble so mostly keep comments to myself now.

The only way to get that install correct is to call Incra. They are as helpful as Shopsmith and a joy to to business with. Once you get it set up properly you will love the accuracy. fjimp

Okay, so maybe I am extremely slow on the uptake but will you please tell how these two photos differ with respect to setup left or setup right.

I recognize the major differences in the rail system but that is all.
And then a question of my own. Am I to understand that the Incra 5000 Sled
cannot be setup on the other side of the blade?
To the right side of the blade is where I would want it.

If you go to here:
http://www.incra.com/product_miter_5000.htm
And look at the picture of the shopsmith things might be cleared up.
I have the miter express and the directions there were a little confusing too. They said if it is a right tilting blade do this, if it is a left tilting blade to this.... The shopsmith of course tilts the table, but if you thing about it as the table is level the blade would be tilted to the left.
Here is a picture of my express setup:

Incra only supplied one scale. If you install it the wayShopsmith has it pictured, the scale reads backwards. I read (or heard) that Incra ships both a right hand scale and a left hand scale on the ones they sell. I only received one scale with the one I ordered through Shopsmith. So, although you can assemble it either way, unless you have the other scale, it is more difficult to use (or for me it is). Of course, maybe they left the other scale out of my unit - never asked about that.

Has anyone attempted to either buy the other scale from Incra or maybe swap scales with themmpcarr wrote:Incra only supplied one scale. Ed (reible)'s picture shows it the same way the Incra site shows it on the SS: The SS picture shows it mounted the same way that Incra shows it mounted on a Jet saw. Mike, I guess it IS your fault they dropped the TA!

May be a few sketches will help.
First if you are always going to have the sled on a flat table and never want to use it to cut any other way then left or right shouldn't matter, it becomes personal.

When you want to set the table at an angle be it 1 deg or 45 degs then it maters.

As you can see a part of the incra base is cut away. If you want to use that edge to align to, well it's gone.
Keep in mind this is not to scale or a true representation of the parts but just a quick sketch to show way you may want to do it the way that is pictured on the incra site.

I don't own the 5000 but incra normal has sliding scales and the scale should slide out and flip back in with the smaller numbers towards the blade... some times you end up with two scales in the slot one on top of another... I'd check this out too. In either case the manual should mention this.
