Three legged stool

Last weekend I finally finished the Christmas for my daughter, a three legged staked stool. :)

First time I have tried this type of construction, tapered and wedged through tenons.

Made from a piece of pine 2x12 that I had in stock. All work done with the 10ER, SS bandsaw and hand tools.

Leveling the feet with the V-drum sander.

Turned out okay, learned lots and the next one will be better. :)

It looks great, and you will find it really useful. Over the years, I've built a number of 3 and 4 leg stools for myself and other family members. They are very useful in the kitchen if you have high cabinets.

This one is chair height, The plans I worked from are for a high stool but I made the legs shorter, https://blog.lostartpress.com/2018/08/2 ... igh-stool/

A couple of coats of Watco Oil, topped with a coat of Trewax paste wax. (can't find Johnson's locally)

I really like it — especially the wedged tenons. Those should last a long, long time, and they look nice to boot. I need to build myself a shop stool, and will definitely incorporate those when I do.

Agreed! However I like them when they are blind.

The tenons through the seat are tapered, I roughed them in on the lathe (10ER) and finished with a 5/8" tapered tenon cutter from Lee Valley.

The tenons on the stretchers are straight 5/8" and I turned them on the lathe.

The mortises were drilled 5/8" and the ones in the seat were opened up to match the tenons with a large standard reamer from Lee Valley.

The wedges are oak and I cut them on the bandsaw.

This is after the glue up (liquid hide glue), and before the tenons were trimmed flush.
